Chicago Exit Signs

The City of Chicago enforces additional requirements for Exit Signs under its own stringent codes.

Chicago Exit Sign Requirements

The letters in the "EXIT" faceplate must be 6" tall with a 3/4" stroke. Directional arrows or chevrons are required to be beneath the EXIT and are the same stroke thickness as the lettering. The wording EXIT must be illuminated in RED. Lastly, the housing must be constructed of a durable 20 gauge steel in a white finish.
