New York City Exit Signs
New York City enforces additional requirements for Exit Signs under the State of New York's existing codes. Enforcement of building and fire codes throughout New York are handled by the Division of Code Enforcement and Administration under the New York Department of State.
New York City Exit Sign Requirements
New York City Exit Signs require the word "EXIT" to be Red in color. When used in Group A (Assembly; Theaters, Restaurants, Museums, etc.), and Group R-1 (Transient Residential; Hotels, Bed & Breakfasts, Motels, etc.) occupancies, letters shall be not less than 8 inches high. In addition, these units must be of metal or other durable materials.
